A fantastic experience at Shamarra Alpacas, especially for families with children. The alpacas are very calm, gentle, and clearly happy, which makes it a relaxed and enjoyable visit for kids.

Cuddling with these fluffy, calm alpaca is definitely a dream come true! Staffs are welcoming and knowledgeable and gave us a brief but interesting intro of these cuties. The farm is well-maintained.

This place brought me so much joy - like a warm hug I knew I needed! The alpacas can't help but make you smile and the views are an absolute bonus!

Sharmara Alpacas is a fantastic place to experience these beautiful animals in a stunning, natural setting. The alpacas appear relaxed and well cared for, truly at home in their surroundings.

Wonderful experience! You get a tour with an informative guide who tells you all about the alpacas. You get to pet and feed them, and the views of the harbour are stunning.

Very fun experience! First we got some education on alpaca wool, then we pet and fed the alpacas. You can get very close and they range from very gentle to manageable. Well worth the price.

Superb experience getting up close and personal with the dozens of alpacas, males and females and even few days old newborns. We came here after we did the 10.15am Akaroa Dolphins Harbour Nature Cruise (another superb activity to do in Akaroa).

The girls are so knowledgeable about alpacas and know each one individually. They love introducing people to the alpacas and it was not scary at all. The alpacas are gentle and so soft and fluffy! Plus I learned today that they honk! 10/10 experience!

It was my first time to see real alpacas and they're so adorable!! Besides, the staff were very kind and funny! Actually I didn't know that I had to book before being there but fortunately I was able to join.

Whilst I was visiting family in NZ we stayed in Akaroa and visited the Shamarra Alpacas. What an absolute joy, not only the animals, but the guides and staff. To be so close with the alpacas, petting them, cuddling them was a highlight of our trip.

Very fun tour. The owner and the guide lady were very nice and informative. Learnt a lot about the farm history, alpacas life, especially the mothers and the babies. Alpacas are so cute. Their furs so soft! Two weeks old babies and more babies. This special guy has a crown on top of his head.

The experience with the cute little alpacas was soooo great!!! We spent a lot of time petting those cutest alpacas and had calm and happy memories with the adorable creatures. By the way the tour guide, Lydia was so lovely.

I thought this was going to be a mum and dad type thing but I was very pleasantly surprised to see that it was a very professional and organised affair. I was very impressed by the tour guides and their in-depth knowledge. The Alpacas are wonderful.

This was a very memorable experience we had. The farm offers fun tours where you can get close-up with their friendly and fluffy alpacas, you can cuddle them, feed them and take beautiful photos and videos. One of the most unique experiences.

We had the most amazing time! Our host "I" was incredibly knowledgeable and was happy to answer the dozens of questions we had for him. He had a great sense of humor and you could tell that the animals loved him. The alpacas were adorable.

You can feed them you can pat them. The spectacular scenery here is breathtaking. Staff is friendly to guide the tour, plus must try the cookies! Cannot find any reason not to visit here.

OMG best day ever. Unfortunate for the weather but that wasn't stopping us - NOPE! However due to no tourism at the moment with NZ travel not opened up we had this place all to ourselves.

After discovering this place before COVID and postponing a 2020 trip, I can genuinely say it was worth the wait! Turning the curves of the mountains and seeing the Akaroa peninsula, it's like heaven on earth. We had gorgeous weather, and the alpacas were wonderful.

My partner and I had a great time at Shamarra Alpacas! A very wholesome and educational experience with lots of cuddles, cuteness and a wonderful view! Also the tour guide was really outstanding as he made everything super fun. Totally recommend to everyone and will be returning.

Located about 30 minutes from Akaroa overlooking the ocean, the views are stunning. The alpacas are sweet and happy for pets and cuddles. Appropriate for all ages. The staff were phenomenal, friendly, engaging, attentive, fun, and extremely knowledgeable.

I would definitely recommend visiting Shamarra alpaca farm. Beautiful views, cuddly alpacas and great hospitality by owners. They have 3 visits a day: which includes some information in the beginning, then cuddles with male alpacas and feeding the females and babies.

Was an amazing experience! Visited with my partner, spent the day in Akaroa town then finished up with going to the alpaca farm. Staff were very lovely & learnt heaps about these cool animals. In winter if you book the 4pm slot definitely recommend some warm clothes as it gets cold as the sun goes down.

Omg what a simply stunning experience. I'm not usually one to go gaga for farm tours and animal sight seeing but Alex and her team of wonder women run a fine ship filled with fluffy fabulous friends. My octogenarian mother had an absolute ball.

Such a cute and fluffy experience! Personally think it's a tad bit overpriced, 55 NZD/pp for an hour where you can pet and feed alpacas, but being one of the very few offering this experience, I'm happy they aren't charging more.

The staff are friendly and knowledgeable on their alpacas! We have been to so many alpacas farms, this is the only farm that allows you to hug them! However, the road towards the place, please be safe and drive slowly. And make your reservation before going. They don't allow walk-ins.

Just over an hour from Christchurch. Very informative tour with lovely guides. You can choose to have your tour offered in English and Mandarin (2 groups). The Alpacas were just sheared when we came. We were able to pat them and give them cuddles. Perfect for animal lovers!

It was a nice place. The way to the farm is a bit narrow and steep but once you reach the farm, it's so nice. We fed the alpacas which was a nice experience. The hosts explained all about the alpacas, offered tea coffee and mind blowing cookies at the end of tour which was a nice touch to the whole experience.
